HIGH RISK In my association we have a vocation called Sensitive Duty Program, this program is extremely fundamental. This program screens military staff performing delicate obligations that could make extreme or grave harm our country. This activity is imperative to such an extent that not exclusively does the Air Force and U.S. Government depend on us to carry out the responsibility accurately however so does each resident in this free nation! While what we do is significant, the results of our activities likely wouldn't be as serious as the activities of somebody performing increasingly touchy obligations. So this program helps our national wellbeing and security. It's intended to screen people performing basic obligations for example, flight teams, security police, rocket bolster faculty, and those working with or around atomic weapons. Impact of Harry Potter on Society - Free Essay Example

Many people all across globe have fallen in love with Harry Potter over the years, whether it be the movies, books, games, or any other of the novelties associated with the franchise. Most people, however, havent thought how the books that started this global phenomenon, have impacted them. The Harry Potter book series has made an impact on numerous people throughout the world. From helping young readers develop reading skills, to captivating people around the globe, Harry Potter has something for everyone, which is why it is why it has reached so many people, and will continue to teach lessons to whom over comes in contact with the books. As the series progresses there are increasingly difficult problems and language. For example, in the first book was about a young wizard who had family problems, such as no parents and an abusive foster family. Harry was also solving problems, and attending school. The first book used basic language. However, by the seventh book, Harry was battling the evil wizard, Voldemort, and his army. Harry had to cope with the loss of friends and to make difficult decisions. There was more complex language and problems by the last novel. The Harry Potter books have helped people develop reading skills, and will make people want to read. I predict the books will provide an escape for everyday life and people will be able to immerse themselves into a fantasy world, making people want to read the book series. If someone has problems in their everyday life, they can escape these problems by reading about a fantasy world. Harry, also has his flaws and problems, but deals with his issues and overcomes them. This makes Harry Potter relatable to the reader, and shows that they can also overcome these obstacles. According to Sara Ann Beach and Elizabeth Harden Willner, The magical world created by Rowling draws young readers into the books by connecting aspects of the world in which they live with a world that transcends reality. Harry and his friends participate in such everyday activities much like an average kid. Although this seems like the life of an everyday kid, it also has things outside of our realm. Since Harry Potter genre is fantasy, it will allow people to experience events they cannot experience in real life. According to Beach and Harden Willner, The nonhuman characters that inhabit both Hogwarts and the wizard world are the creatures of myth and fantasy, creatures that fascinate young readers. A huge three-headed dog guards the entrance to the chamber where the sorcerers stone is kept. Unicorns and centaurs inhabit the Enchanted Forest on the edge of the school grounds. The school headmaster Dumbledores pet is Phoenix, who bursts into flames and then rises from the ashes. This aspect can appeal to those who normally dislike reading. These books will appeal to the lifelong love for reading that can develop overtime. It can help a child get into to reading that would normally dislike the activity. It truly helps to captivate the reader. This can be useful to help impact readers develop a lifelong love of reading, and help teach other various lessons. Harry Potter should also be able to help people empathize with others. One example is in one experiment, researchers studied attitudes toward immigrants, people often discriminated against in Italy, among a group of 34 elementary-school age Italian children (Nye, Lesley). The children were first given a survey about immigrants and then divided into two groups: One read passages from Harry Potter that included prejudice Draco Malfoy calling Hermione, a filthy little Mudblood, and the other read neutral passages. Among those who read the first passage and identified with Harry Potter as a character, tolerance toward immigrants improved. In the following studies, the researchers measured attitudes toward homosexuals in an Italian high school and toward refugees among British university students. Both groups showed a more positive outlook on the stigmatized group among Harry Potter readers (Nye, Lesley). In the first two studies, which included younger participants, these attitudes were associated with identifying with Harry Potter as a character. Among the university participants, who were older than Harry, the researchers attributed the lower prejudice to dissociation with the negative character Voldemort (Kozlowska, Hanna). It can also teach people to stand up for themselves and others. In The Prisoner of Azkaban, Malfoy makes fun of Harry, and is cruel to him, so Hermione stands up for Harry by punching Malfoy. Later on in the book, Hagrid has a magical pet hippogryph, named Buckbeak. Hagrid brought him in to the magical creatures class he was teaching so they could learn about him. Malfoy mistreats him, and resulting from it, Buckbeak attacks him. Malfoys father complains, so they are forced to put him down. Harry, knowing that Buckbeak is innocent, saves him before he is executed, because it is the right thing to do. This is crucial reason why it has touched many lives, it trul y makes people feel for Harry, and is highly relatable to the audience. Harry Potter fans who love this story so much and then you see that story being represented in your own world, its hard not to want to use it as inspiration (Yasharoff, Hannah). One reason the Harry Potter series has impacted the world, is the sheer volume of Harry Potter has reached is absurd. Harry Potters enormous amount of exposure has made it able to make an impact on maximum amount of people. This could be in part to Harry Potter being the fourth most sold book of all time. Facebooks data team did a survey, and the series about the Boy Who Lived was on a 21% of the 130,000 lists, making it what some have called the most influential book in the world. Harry Potter topped such standards as Harper Lees To Kill a Mockingbird, J.R.R Tolkiens The Lord of the Rings and the Bible. (Kozlowski). With all this exposure, it has had the opportunity to impact an immense amount of people. Harry Potter has an immense following, in part to various reasons. One being, the books have been turned into films. From these films, it has kept compounding, and growing. An example of this is in live action roleplay. There are groups that participate in live action role playing b ased on the series, which brings people together. Another example is that, there are numerous games, toys, and other merchandise for sale. At Disney World, they have even recreated a part of their theme park to be like Diagon Alley, with shops and various other places that allow people to feel like they are in the movie (Galligan, Anne). Harry Potter has touched people across the globe and will continue to make lasting impressions on children. The sheer exposure of the books, movies, etcetera, has helped this book leave a lasting imprint. It will result in various people who now have a lifelong relationship with reading. It will teach people about empathy, and promote standing up for whats right. It will teach others that we may have our flaws, but at the end of the day, we can still be the hero and overcome our differences.

Epic of Beowulf Essay - 1818 Words

Chivalry is Yet, Not Dead In some select stories of old/middle english, we can see that people have been fascinated by ideals of heroism, chivalry, and what we now refer to as romance for a very long time. I will argue in this document, that our fascination with such imaginary laws has never ceased, and in some ways is even more fantastic. Every further mention of romance will refer to all of these ideas, the way it did when the term was introduced into english. If all things are to be considered this short essay would turn into a book. I would like to compare and contrast Beowulf, Lanval, and Sir Gawain and the Green Knight with some of the modern day creations especially in looking at the values, and belief systems in all of the three†¦show more content†¦The most glorious of these examples I would say is the swallowing of Beowulfs smoke by heaven. You do not get much more honorable than to die in combat with a vastly formidable foe, and then have your remains taken to heaven where perhaps you will still be honored. In any case, the Geats certainly always respected Beowulf, and even feared for their safety after he was not there to protect them anymore. To be revered in such a way certainly sounds attractive, maybe in spite of the pain he must have regarded from the fatal wounding endowed by the dragon. The fact that he has survived in so many hearts and minds nearly two millenia since he would have been alive is a dream that many have wished, and so few have accomplished. I believe the desire to leave behind a legacy is innate in us all, many people devote entire lifetimes to these desires. It is actually comic to me when I compare â€Å"Beowulf† to a book I have read by David Laven called Napoleons Legacy: Problems of Government in Restoration Europe. I would consider Napoleon to be the opposite of Beowulf in almost every aspect. Granted, Napoleon is a verifiable real character, he was also a real â€Å"king† instead of being just the hero-turned-king that was Beowulf. The paper covers areas such as denotation and connotation, imagery, literary techniques, symbols, irony and tone of the poem. Flak, nightmare and woke are words especially well chosen. Flak in the poem refers to flak from machine-gun fire but the word flak also has a second meaning of criticism. This double meaning implies that he is disliked with the actual flak a product of this dislike. Jarrell then describes the fighters shooting at the gunner as nightmare fighters. The word nightmare on one level means terrible but on another links to the feeling of the complete terror in a nightmare. This double meaning gives an insight into the gunners fear. Ironic Symbolism in The Lottery Essays

Ironic Symbolism in The Lottery Essays Ironic Symbolism in The Lottery Paper Ironic Symbolism in The Lottery Paper Throughout the story of The Lottery, symbolisms are apparent. Shirley Jackson sets the scene of the story as bright and magnificently beautiful in the beginning, but as the story continues that scene is destroyed and replaced by what some would consider quite disturbing. The Lottery takes the road less traveled in route to its disturbing nature. Symbolisms provided by Shirley Jackson provide her audience with the knowledge to make sense of the ironic chaos abound. Three symbolisms stand prevalent above all other in, The Lottery; the three-legged stool, the black box, and the lottery itself. The three-legged stool that is mentioned in Shirley’s story happens to display important symbolism for her story. The three legs of the stool seemingly represent the Holy Trinity (God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirt). As a representation of life, forgiveness, and hope the stool (Holy Trinity) is used to support the black box when a random drawing was in process. The Stool’s employment of supporting the black box in The Lottery represents the manipulative involvement of people in religion to support collective violence. There also lies irony in the symbolism. It is ironic that the stool represents the Holy Trinity and yet it supports the black box which symbolizes death, evil, fear, and mystery. The placement of the stool as the centerpiece of the square room highlights the mystery of the box and also the symbolism of the three-legged stool. The black box that sets atop the three-legged stool has two major symbolic qualities being its shape (box) and its color (black). Black, the color of the box represents death, evil, fear, and mystery. The random drawing from the black box constructs fear and mystery in the people anticipating the drawing. Evil soon ensues to turn people who once had high morals into bigots. And the random drawing selection process is capped off by death whom presents itself through a thorough stoning of the â€Å"lu

Artemis Temple Essay Example for Free

Artemis Temple Essay She presided over the transition of a woman from virgin (parthenos) to married woman (gyne) and protected the virginity of those who were unmarried or wished to remain virgins (2). Artemis also oversaw marriage, childbirth and assisted with child-rearing (3). Virginity was especially emphasized in the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus: only virgins and men were allowed access and married or sexually active women were excluded under penalty of death. Artemis is commonly regarded as a fertility goddess, mostly because of the multitude of ‘breasts’ that cover her cult image (4). This essay will discuss three aspects of the Ancient Temple of Artemis, the style, the restoration of its architecture and its importance. The temple of Artemis was built around 550 BC and was the first temple to be entirely of marble and the largest temple ever built. The temple was financed by the wealthy king of Lydia and was designed by the Greek architect Chersiphron. Marshy ground was selected for the building site as a precaution against future earthquakes. The foundation was laid on a bed of packed charcoal and sheepskins, the column drums and architraves moved from the quarry, relates Vitruvius, by fitting them with large wheels and then, like rolling axles, having them pulled by oxen (5). It resembles the classical Greek temple: a stoic rectangular structure with mighty columns (6). The temple measured 350 by 180 feet and from the outside, its most striking feature was its more than 100 marble columns. Since it was built in the Ionic architectural style, the columns were decorated with sculptural reliefs at their bases and rosettes in their capitals (7). There were two rows of columns stretched across the front of the temple, standing about 21 feet apart and extending from the front to the back of the temple at 17 feet apart. The door in the pediment — along with two windows — was intended for Artemis’ own use (8). Inside the temple was the statue of Artemis herself, which was built from gold, silver, ebony and other stones. The temple brought in merchants, kings, and sightseers, many of donated jewellery and other treasures to Artemis and her temple. Its splendor also attracted many worshipers and pilgrims, strengthening the cult of Artemis (9). Since she was an influential figure, her fame went higher as soon as her temple was built. The Temple of Artemis was a very famous and attracted visitor from far and near. Its purpose was both a religious institution and market place. The market place itself had small models of the temple and its goddess Artemis for the fellow tourists as souvenirs to take with them. The columns at the front were decorated with intricate sculptures. It was built to honor Artemis as inside the temple was an inner room called the sanctuary that housed  a magnificent statue of the goddess. The temple was destroyed and rebuilt several times, each time it was built more impressively than the time before it. The first time it was destroyed was on the night of July 21, 356 BC, a man named Herostratus set fire to the temple in an attempt to immortalize his name (10). It caused the roof to cave in, the columns collapsed, and the statue of the goddess crashed to the ground. After the town created a law stating whoever mentioned his name would be put to death immediately. In the following two decades the temple was restored with the help of Alexander the Great. But then again in 262 AD, the temple was destroyed by the Goths and later swamped by floods, but still the residents of Ephesus vowed to rebuild it (11). However this time it was not rebuilt due to the high construction costs. A little later the temple began to lose its importance and many people were switching to Christianity and the town was completely isolated. There were attempts made to reconstruct the temple, but so far only a couple columns have been erected upon the remaining foundation. Artemis Temple. (2018, Oct 30).

Insanity Defense Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Insanity Defense - Essay Example Following a brief comparative definition and discussion of each, this essay will argue in favour of ALI as the better of the three models. The M'Naughten standard came into being in 1843 and derives from the case of Daniel M'Naughten. M'Naughten, in a failed attempt to assassinate the British Prime Minister, killed his secretary (Huckabee, 2000). His reason for doing so was his belief that the Prime Minister was responsible for all of his personal misfortunes. Several witnesses testified to M'Naughten's apparent insanity and a jury found him not guilty by reason of insanity. In their review of the verdict, the House of Lords reversed it and established the M'Naughten standard which specified that a person was not guilty by reason of insanity if he/she could not distinguish between right and wrong. This rule was subsequently adopted in the United States, in some states without modification and others with modification. It is important to note that one of the primary weaknesses with the M'Naughten standard lies in its failure to account for control. Some may know that their actions are wrong but, nevertheless, are unable to control themselves. As such, some states added an "irresistible impulse" modification to the M'Naughten standard (Huckabee, 2000). The Durham test was adopted as a direct outcome of

US Marine Corps Combined Action Program in South Vietnam Article

US Marine Corps Combined Action Program in South Vietnam - Article Example From this paper it is clear that  the configuration of a village defense platoon is arrived upon combining a Marine squad with indigenous forces. This proved very effective in thwarting enemy forces security at the village level. CAP, which was first implemented during operations in South Vietnam, has withstood the test of time. Although there is no comprehensive statistical evidence to prove its effectiveness, first hand observations of military officers and subjective evaluations have assented to its utility. The successes met by American troops in later wars in regions such as Haiti, Bosnia, Somalia, etc, underscore CAP-style organization’s relevance and usefulness. This study outlines that  the CAP was a natural extension of the martial traditions that the US Marines excelled in. The US Marines have long understood how pacification of locals and subsequent co-option to their cause drastically improves chances of success. A robust training program for the local recruits a nd provisions for their security greatly helped with administration of localities. The validity of the CAP concept is attested by its successful implementation in war experiences in Haiti, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, etc during the last two centuries. CAP-style organization is especially applicable in regions where the opposition employs guerrilla warfare tactics.   In this sense, the CAP concept can be construed as counter-guerrilla warfare.... The CAP organized the hamlet defense and lived in the hamlet on a 24-hour basis. Besides hamlet security, â€Å"CAP teams provided the villagers medical care and assistance with hygiene and disease related problems. CAP teams also built simple structures and roads and conducted a variety of other civic projects aimed at helping the people. The Marine pacification program was successful in screening the people from the VC and in large part insulating them from some of the corruption and abuses of the GVN.† (Clark, 1990, p. 115) One of the early demonstrations of CAP’s organization and operation was witnessed in August of 1965 in the Vietnam theatre. The unit assembled from 3rd Battalion of 4th Marines is a case in point. Led by Lt. Col. William W. Taylor in the Phu Bai area, the unit’s Tactical Area of Responsibility (TAOR) covered half a dozen villages plus an airfield. Under pressure from enemy retaliation and realizing how thinly spread his personnel are across the terrain, the Colonel’s executive officer forwarded a plan to include members of the local militia into the 3/4 unit’s operations. After going up the ranks for evaluation and approval, the suggestion was finally assented by major General Lew Walt and Lieutenant General Victor Krulak. They foresaw how this concept could prove to be a force multiplier. It was upon their approval that General Nguyen Van Chuan of the local militia (Army of the Republic of Vietnam - ARVN) agreed to the co-operative arrangement. General Chuan gave General Walt control of local platoons in the Phu Bai jurisdiction. The results of the Phu Bai experiment encouraged further trials. The Marines instilled a combative, offensive spirit in their counterparts and gave the militia a

Geography Geography in History: a Necessary Connection in teaching Social Studies Geography and history are complementary subjects best taught together within the social studies curriculum. It is part of the collected wisdom of teachers that one cannot teach history without geography or geography without history. Both subjects have been emphasized in high-profile curriculum reform reports produced by various organizations, such as the Bradley Commission on History in Schools, the Education for Democracy Project of the American Federation of Teachers, and the National Commission on Social Studies in the Schools. But most social studies teachers are primary teachers of history. They are ignoring an important part of history because they do not include geography as part of the teaching repertoire. The geographic perspective can enrich the study of history by helping students grasp the significance of location, the inevitability of change, and the importance of human perceptions at given times in the past. Helping students to become more informed geographically means teaching better history. Hypothesis How should classroom instructors proceed to connect geography with history in the curriculum. I believe that answering this question will involve three assumptions: It is impossible to understand the present without understanding geography. It is impossible to understand the present without understanding the past. It is impossible to understand the past without understanding geography. In other words, the rationale for history (studying the past to understand the present) requires knowing geography: today’s geography and the geography of different places at different times in the past. Synopsis of Research Bradley Commission-recognizes â€Å"the relationship between geography and history as a matrix of time and place, and as context for events†. Florida Commission on Social Studies Education published Connections, Challenges, Choices which presents the objectives, subjects, topics, and rationale for the state of Florida’s new social studies curriculum for grades K-12.Geography and history are hightlighted as core subjects of the school curriculum in Goal Three of a set of six National Education Goals proclaimed by the President and the state governors in February 1990. The Shaping of America: A Geographical Perspective on 500 years of American History stresses that â€Å"geography is not just a physical stage for the historical drama, not just a set of facts about areas of the earth. It is a special way of looking at the world. Geography, like history, is an age-old and essential strategy for thinking about large and complex matters†.

Blood Diamonds Essay

The result in the deaths of more than fifty thousand people, left millions homeless, and integrated violence such as mass rapes and mutilations were caused from these jewels earnings which helped to subsidize a war. It was also stated that these blood diamonds increase the battle in Africa which resulted to the loss of four million lives and millions of residents has been dislocated. Same of what happened at Sierra Leone which had discrepancy; these conflict diamonds yet in little ways can cause massive destruction in a country. In the vile civil war at Sierra Leone, the rising up evolutionary United Front apprehended control to a great extent of the nation’s diamond fields. The issue regarding blood diamonds did not occur only long-ago. There was a report recently by the United Nation that twenty-three dollars of diamonds are being smuggled into international diamond markets which are from the Ivory Coast. Diamonds have also played an important role in financing conflicts in Angola and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Fortified sadism and vicious human rights abuses go on with over control of diamond mines in eastern Congo which was the bloodiest war since World War II. The Global Witness in 1998 had to start a revelation operation about the role of diamonds in financial support argument. Amnesty International a proletariat human rights organization in the world became so influential in enlightening citizens concerning the problem and urges the governments and industry to take action. International tension has augmented from a large federation of Non Government Officials through the years. United States is the seventy percent of the world’s diamond trader and this only means that it was the leading costumer of diamonds. With this reason, they should be the first and major head to cover on the problem of blood diamonds which also called conflict diamonds. On the way hard works for the United States Congress to control the trading of blood diamonds. Terrorist operation are possible funded by the international trade of diamonds and with this, the United States Congress Members obtains tactics to put a stop to it. Diamonds are expensive goods that can easily be covered and transported according to the U. S. General Accounting Office and was used in illegal means of trading. It was extracted from inaccessible areas which no hint to find from its origin. Government-run Kimberley Process which is an international agreement endorsed by the United Nation which aimed and developed a diamond certification program that would prevent the flow of blood diamond and initiated stop to its trade was presently participate United States together with other countries. The â€Å"chain of warranties† or the â€Å"system of self regulation. † was the agreement wherein the diamond companies will take charge to guard itself in dispatching diamonds from its place to the stores where it should be delivered. This became there support to the Kimberley Process. However this agreement I not fully applied to the industries because it is a must for a company dealing in diamonds to have a course of action in place to guarantee that their diamonds are conflict-free. Actual visit of the government in the diamond industries should be practiced for more assurance of freeing from conflicts and conduct cyclic area confirmation to diamond companies to make sure they have schemes in place to avoid any trade in conflict diamonds. Several of the countries rich in diamonds are those really poor and citizens do not get any benefit from their resources particularly the soil richness. Confusions and explosive natures are widespread in the diamond fields because revolutionary group’s antiterrorists can still seize benefit and right to use the diamonds. Given all the problems concerning the conflict diamonds the United States government should take a look in implementing the diamond law and require all regions to build up a reliable diamond industry. The practice for tracking arrangement in each of the diamond companies will be helpful to make sure to prevent the entrance in the market of conflict diamonds. Additional force should be given off by the Administration for the implementation of Clean Diamond Trade Act (CDTA) in impeding the operation to conflict diamonds as they support the Kimberley Process. Nowadays, blood diamonds are still a serious dilemma. Experientially the government action in controlling the finance conflict in diamonds are not that powerful and functional to ensure that the rebel groups, terrorist and other criminal networks will not anymore make use of it. This continual weakness of the Control System found by the Government Accountability Office of United States was because of the paltry imposing of Clean Diamond Trade Act. The needs for development in monitoring process in the diamond industries in line with the law and accumulating precise information on United States trade in rough diamonds. Being the leading consumer of diamonds, the United States should insist on strengthening the Clean Diamond Trade Act and the Kimberley Process. Suggested step that will be the best help addressing on the problem will be: working with other key administration to reinforce the Kimberley Process and break down on blood diamonds smuggled out of the Ivory Coast. In addition ensure that the Kimberley Process taking on procedures to develop the accurateness and investigation of the information, call for authentication of production conformity, endow with satisfactory financing to encourage effective completion of the system. They should also provide more forceful support as well as technical and financial aid, to help countries develop their accomplishment of the Kimberley Process. The on time application of the proposals of Government Accountability Office including the spot checks of diamond companies and tracking of rough diamonds inside and outside the country especially the goal setting in executing the proposal will be a great help in resolving the problems. Having hands on urgent dealings to progress the accuracy of United States rough diamond trade statistics will also be a help. Judaism, Christianity, And Islam Essay - 1091 Words

Edwin Bridges Professor Humanities 7 July 2015 Judaism, Christianity, and Islam The religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam have some significant similarities, but also many differences. These religions are founded on the same basic religious beliefs; however with each large similarity, there are major differences in how that belief is made up and practiced. Each of these religions has a Holy Book that is, ‘the word of God,’ and that the followers use as a guide to live by. Judaism has the Hebrew Tanakh which consists of the Torah (Hebrew ‘Law’), Nevi’im (‘Prophets), and Ketuvim (‘Writings’). Christianity has the Bible which was given by God to man. Finally, Islam has the Qur’an or Koran which was revealed to Mohammed over a period of about 20 years. Followers of this religion also believe that the words were given by Allah to mankind (Comparison Table between Christianity, Islam and Judaism, 2014). The largest similarity between these three religions is that they are all monotheistic. However, their ideas on the one God, all differ quite a bit. In Judaism the One God is known as Yahweh or Jehovah who cannot be made up of parts. The first verse of a prayer that serves as the centerpiece of the morning and evening Jewish prayer services encapsulates the monotheistic essence of Judaism. The Theory of Object Relations - 4032 Words

OTTO KERNBERG THE THEORY OF OBJECT RELATIONS Kernberg generally defines object relations theory as the psychoanalytic study of intrapersonal relations and how intrapsychic structures grow from internalized past relationships with others. Broadly, object relations theory could refer to a general theory of the structures of the mind influenced by interpersonal experiences. More narrowly, object relations theory is a more circumspect approach within psychoanalysis, stressing the construction of structures from internal objects – that is, self-representations linked with object-representations. I. STRUCTURE: Object An Object is a mental image of a person, a mental image colored with feelings. At this stage, internalized object relations, according to Kernberg, are also organized into the representational world, which internally represents the external world. Identity formation means that early primitive identifications are replaced overtime by selective identifications in which only those aspects of the object relation that are in harmony with individual identity formation are internalized. These partial identification are of people who are loved and admired in a realistic way. III. DEVELOPMENTAL STAGES Kernberg believes that internal object relations develop into structures of id, ego and superego. Kernberg also views structure formation as a series of developmental stages. Failures in normal development can result in various forms of mental illness or psychopathology. Stage 1 The earliest stage of development covers the first month of life. Creep Radiohead music for remenber Essay Example For Students

Creep Radiohead music for remenber Essay The band singer Tom Yorker wrote Creep while studying at Exeter University in the late sass . Creep encloses many feelings and stories that make people want to listen the song over and over. Its lyrics can be considered the most deep and depressive message of a man about a woman. During 1992, Radioed improvised the song Creep in a recording session. At first, the song was dry in arrangements. Latter on, it became one of the most popular hits of Radioed. According to Yorker, Creep tells the tale of an inebriated man who tries to get the attention of a woman to whom he is attracted by following her around. In the end, he lacks the self-confidence to face her and feels he subconsciously is her. Yorker always was very introspective with his lyrics and Creep was not the exception. Played with four basic chords and repeated them throughout the whole song, this song becomes a bomb of depression while it is playing. The first two verses of Creep make an introduction about what is going on with the man who tries to get the attention of the woman. When you were here before, couldnt look you in the eye, youre Just like an angel, your skin makes me cry. You float like a feather, in a beautiful world, I wish I was special, youre so very special. These two verses express an impotence of the man. How can he attract her? He realizes that he is not a handsome man, but he accept that the woman is so beautiful that he describes her as a beautiful and soft feather floating in a beautiful place. Maybe the man was in love, but he knows that he is not enough for the woman. Yorker tried to explain how does it feel when a man cannot be with his true love. The chorus of the song is also very explicit about how the man feels. But Im a creep, Im a weirdo. What the hell am I doing here? I dont belong here. By these lines we can infer that he doesnt feel comfortable in that situation. He denigrates Creep Radioed music for remember By Jose Arturo-Castillo Gonzalez oppression comes out at this part of the song. Maybe Yorker lived a bad experience with love in the past. Through out the lyrics we will find interesting details about this particular song. Some will show the worst face of loving somebody. Others will show suicide feelings that may be part of loving somebody. The next two verses shows most part of the message that Yorker tried to put in this song. l dont care if it hurts want to have control, I want a perfect body, I want a perfect soul. I want you to notice, when Im not around, youre so very special, I wish I was special. At this part of the song, the man wants to be another person. No matter what is goanna happen to him, he is decided to be another person in order to get the womans attention. I would be a painful decision, but he will take the risk. Another idea about this verses could be that he is decided to confront her and tell her his feelings. Maybe he wont care about the consequences. He wants peaceful in her body and soul. Yorker insisted again in the last two lines of the song that the man wishes to be a special person for her. At last but not least, the song goes to a part that Yorker starts screaming like a man crying. In this part of the song Yorker sings Shes running out the door Shes running out She run, run, run, run Run after this emotional moment, we infer that the man finally told to the woman his feelings. .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 , .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 .postImageUrl , .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 , .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852:hover , .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852:visited , .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852:active { border:0!important; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852:active , .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852 .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u4433c5e62197a7ce9dfb5b5ee9d5c852:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Nicki Minaj - Anaconda EssayMaybe she got surprised about what does he told her or maybe he ran away because she is not interested in him. After this part of the song, another verse appears Whatever makes you happy, whatever you want, youre so very special, I wish I was special. At this moment the man maybe stopped looking for her love. Now he knows that she doesnt want to be with him. He is now letting her go, but he is also keeping his feelings for her. He keeps wishing to be special for her. This song have been heard since 1992. Some people have found a personal feeling of this song. Others have related this song with their memories about heartbreak or impossible loves. The main idea about the song is Yorkers message. The story about a man that couldnt bear the impotence of being rejected by a woman. Despite not knowing the answer that she would give, he was in deep depression for not being what she wanted. Johnny Greenwood, guitarist of Radioed, said that the song was in fact a happy song about recognizing what you are. Every time that I listen to this song, I always remember who I am, and I also remember some heartbreak and some past loves.

Zebra Storyteller And Yellow Wallpaper Essays - Style, Fiction

Zebra Storyteller And Yellow Wallpaper "The role of the narrator influences the type of relationship we have not only with him or her but also with the story" (Landy 75). This quote was taken from our Literary Studies book in which we have read several stories concerning different styles of narration. Narration is one of the most important components of a story. The characters, plot, setting, and theme are also significant, however the narrator sets the mood and also the pace of the story. Two good examples of narration is the short tale The Zebra Storyteller by Spencer Holst and The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman. These are stories in which the narrators retain certain styles of narration. An outside book that we have not read is the fairy tale Cinderella. In these three works, the narrators have specific functions or duties to carry throughout the story. In The Zebra Storyteller the narrator is a Siamese cat but the narrator is also an outsider. During the story the cat tells a story to his friends about how skillful and 'powerful' he is at killing zebras. Towards the end of the story the cat is handed his fate; he is kicked and killed by a zebra, who sensed feared when approached. At the end of the story Holst concludes with the statement, "That is the function of the storyteller." This statement pertains to the idea of the function the storyteller has or how they create the atmosphere and set the grounds in which the story is based on. There are many functions of the storyteller. They can teach a lesson, control the story, entertain, and stretch one's own imagination. In this story it is a great example how the story can take a sudden unexpected turn and shock the reader. The narrator can take twists and turns and can make expected or even unexpected outcomes in the story. A good example in the story would be where the narrator states, "The zebra storyteller wasn't fit to be tied at hearing a cat speaking his language, because he'd been thinking about that very thing" (Holst 1971). At this point the narrator changes the reader's perspective and sheds light on an upcoming event in the story. Which turned out to be a big event where the Siamese cat got killed. Of course this story is fictional but it is an excellent story to portray how a narrator can expand the reader's imagination. The Yellow Wallpaper is a story in that one of the different styles of narration is prevalent. Some types of unique styles of narration writing are story telling, diary style, or telling a story about a day's experience. The Yellow Wallpaper is in diary format which means the narrators internal thoughts are exposed in the story as well as their outside thoughts, meaning how they deal with the other characters in the story. This story is about a woman who is in a mental hospital where she is kept in a room that has very old yellow wallpaper on the walls. In this story the main character or the narrator is secluded in this room by herself and is limited to basically doing nothing. As the story continues the narrator is drawn toward the hideous wallpaper and finds herself in the wallpaper. In her diary writings she reports, "There are things in that paper that nobody knows but me, or ever will. Behind that outside pattern the dim shapes get clearer everyday" (Gilman 83). In her reports she creates a mysterious, scary mood about the woman she sees in that paper. When the narrator reveals 'her diary' it allows reading into their thoughts on how they take in the actions in the story. She lets them into how she feels about her husband and also she is not allowed to write because he says it is going to delay her getting better, which she disagrees with. She says, "Personally, I believe that congenial work, with excitement and change, would do me good" (Gilman 78). The narrator's function in this story is to set not only the mood but also the setting. In the beginning she describes her settings very clearly giving details of her room and the outside gardens. As the story continues she becomes more abstract due to her deteriorating awareness of reality. At the end her husband collapses due to the sight of his wife 'creeping through the wallpaper.' She makes her reader's imagination wonder what really happens at the end. After he faints she

in the boardroom 8 Essay

in the boardroom 8 Essay in the boardroom 8 Essay a. Escuela de Ingles can use currency futures to hedge the business in Mexico. For example, an investor of the school may receive a cash flow of a foreign currency that is denominated on some future date. In the case of the school, all revenue and expenses are denominated in Mexican pesos. By entering an offsetting currency futures position, the individual may then be able to hook the current exchange rate that expires on the date written on the cash flow statement. In Escuela de Ingles’ case, however, the manager may be one of the investors. Say he or she will receive $100,000 (Mexican pesos) on November 1st. The current exchange rate in the futures is $13 Mexican pesos/$ American dollars. The manager can then go about â€Å"locking† this exchange rate by selling $100,000 (Mexican pesos) worth of future contracts expiring on November 1st. In this way, the investor is assured an exchange rate of $13/$ regardless of exchange rate fluctuations that occur in the period. b. The business could also use currency options to hedge the business. As opposed to currency futures, currency options allow the business to have the right to buy or sell the options, enjoy premium payables, retain unlimited profit potential while limiting downside risk, and having the flexibility of the delivery date of the currency. Two options are made readily available: call and put. I would advise the manager to take up a put option, rather than a call option, at first since it requires a short position and
